Associated Tap Dancers is the UK association for adult tap dancers who dance for fun. The association was founded by Penny Smith in 1994 under the name of Amateur Tap Dancers, and soon grew to be country-wide. Professional dancers were not excluded, however, and as news of the association spread, many teachers and performers joined and passed on the word. In 2005 it was re-launched as Associated Tap Dancers (ATD). A non-profit making organisation, it makes arrangements for members to meet and join in tap dancing events. Activities include regular newsletters, one-day workshops (‘Dancers Days Out’) around the country and the annual TapUK Festival. The association is now run by a management committee as follows: Penny Smith: TapUK Festival, Finances and overall administration Jo Summerfield: Newsletters and Dancers Days Out Mary Lockett: Membership database and Secretary Di Cook: Advertising and creative services Membership of Associated Tap Dancers is £15 per year and members will receive quarterly publications (three newsletters detailing all future events and news from the 'tap world', plus a colour magazine with stories and pictures from the festival). Members also receive a discount when attending a Dancers Day Out. |
